Gad Heuman is a Professor in the History Department at the University of Warwick and former Director of the Centre for Caribbean Studies. He holds fellowships from the Royal Historical Society and the Rockefeller Foundation. He studied at Columbia College and Yale University.
His research focuses on Caribbean history, particularly the dynamics of slavery, post-emancipation resistance, and social structures in slave societies. He has edited major journals and book series, including Slavery & Abolition and the Studies in Slave and Post-Slave Societies.
Recent research includes analysis of the Morant Bay Rebellion and post-emancipation Caribbean resistance. He organized symposia on control and resistance in the region, contributing to edited volumes.
