Gabrielle Esperdy

Gabrielle Esperdy is a Professor in the Hillier College of Architecture and Design at New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT). Previously holding an Associate Professor position, she specializes in American architectural and cultural history, with a focus on mid-20th century roadside development, automobile culture, and historical preservation. Her work integrates interdisciplinary approaches to analyze spatial practices, visual culture, and the intersections between architecture and broader societal trends.

Her research has been supported by two National Endowment for the Humanities grants (2013–2017 and 2016–2020) for projects like SAH Archipedia, an online resource for architectural history. She has contributed to peer-reviewed journals such as the Journal of the Society of Architectural Historians and Building and Landscapes, as well as books like American Autopia (2019), which examines the intellectual history of the American roadside.

Esperdy’s academic leadership includes roles in professional societies and media engagement.
