Dr. Gabrielle A Tayac is an Associate Professor of Folklore at George Mason University, specializing in public history and Indigenous studies. She holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from Harvard University and serves as Associate Director for Mason Legacies and Faculty Fellow for the CHSS Faculty Network. Her work bridges living Indigenous knowledge systems with academic historical methods, emphasizing community engagement and museum transformation.

Her research focuses on Chesapeake Bay Indigenous communities, tribal sovereignty, and decolonizing museum practices. Key exhibitions include Return to a Native Place and Indivisible, which explore Algonquian histories and African-Native American intersections.
Recipient of the Distinguished Lecturer title from the Organization of American Historians, she advises undergraduate students and the Native American and Indigenous Alliance. Her CoCreative History Space trains public historians in collaborative methodologies.
