Gabriella Romani is a Professor of Italian and Director of the Charles and Joan Alberto Italian Studies Institute at Seton Hall University. She also oversees the Summer Study-Abroad Program in Rome and serves as President of Ottocentismi (INNCIS – Interdisciplinary Network for Nineteenth-Century Italian Studies). Her academic background includes a Laurea from the University of Rome 'La Sapienza' and a Ph.D. in Italian Studies from the University of Pennsylvania.
Her research focuses on 19th-century Italian literature and culture, with emphasis on post-Unification Jewish authors and national identity formation. Notable works include Postal Culture: Writing and Reading Letters in Post-Unification Italy (2013) and edited volumes on Matilde Serao and Edith Bruck. Recent scholarship explores marginalized voices in Italian literary history and transnational cultural reception.
Her publications analyze themes like Risorgimento reinterpretation, gender roles in 19th-century narratives, and Jewish writers' contributions to national discourse. She collaborates internationally through editorial projects and symposia on Italian studies.
