Prof. Dr. Gabriella Hauch is a University Professor of Modern History/Women's and Gender History at the University of Vienna, affiliated with the Faculty of Historical and Cultural Studies and the Institute of History. She holds a habilitation in modern and contemporary history and has held academic leadership roles including Director of the interdisciplinary Institute for Women's and Gender Studies at Johannes Kepler University Linz (2001–2011). Her research focuses on women's and gender history in Europe, with special attention to social movements, revolution studies, and gender analysis in historical contexts.
Education: Born in 1959, she earned a Mag.Phil. (1984) and PhD (1990) from the University of Salzburg, followed by habilitation at the University of Linz (1996). She has held visiting professorships at institutions including the University of Klagenfurt and Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg.
Research interests include biographical studies of social movement leaders, gender analysis in political systems, and historical projects on National Socialist-era Austria. She has led numerous funded research projects, including studies on forced labor, women's suffrage, and gender mainstreaming in academia.
Awards: Recipient of the Käthe Leichter Prize (1992), Vienna Women's Prize (2012), and Linz Science Medal (2015). She co-leads the Doctoral School in Women's and Gender History and coordinates interdisciplinary initiatives like the research platform GAIN (Gender: Ambivalent In_Visibilities).
