Prof. Dietlind Hüchtker is a Full Professor of Historical Transregional Studies at the University of Vienna’s Faculty Center for Transdisciplinary Historical and Cultural Studies since 2020. Previously, she held roles at the Leibniz Institute for the History and Culture of Eastern Europe (GWZO) and served as Käthe Leichter Visiting Professor at the University of Vienna. Her work bridges historical methodology with interdisciplinary approaches, focusing on spaces, gender studies, and transregional dynamics.
She initiated the international research network Work – Love – Violence: Rural Societies and New Research Perspectives, exploring rural sociopolitical dynamics through lenses of human-animal relations, new materialism, and mediality. At Vienna, she collaborates with research areas including Women’s and Gender History and co-leads the Vienna Doctoral School of Historical and Cultural Studies.
Her research emphasizes transregional epistemologies, particularly in Central and Eastern Europe, with notable contributions to Galician political movements (1900s), gender dynamics in socialist Poland, and the history of knowledge cultures. She currently teaches methodology courses on gender studies and supervises doctoral candidates.
