Gabriele Proglio is a Professor at the University of Gastronomic Sciences, focusing on Culture and Society. His work spans migrations, borders, postcolonial studies, and food history. He holds a Ph.D. in Modern History from the University of Turin (2014) and has held academic positions at institutions like the European University Institute (B.A.B.E. project), Université de Tunis El Manar, and the Social Sciences University of Ankara. His research explores colonial imaginaries, Mediterranean mobilities, and diasporic experiences.
Proglio’s interdisciplinary projects include 'Mobility of Memory, Memory of Mobility' (funded by Portugal’s FCT) and 'The Black Mediterranean,' analyzing racialized borders and citizenship. He also leads UNISG initiatives like the C.L.I.O. project on hospitality and the Circular Economy for Wine. His oral history work includes studies on Horn of Africa diasporas in Europe and the G8 protests in Genoa.
He has collaborated with institutions like the Centro de Estudos Sociais (Coimbra) and has published extensively on colonialism, memory, and migration. His research integrates visual and oral archives to challenge Eurocentric narratives, emphasizing decolonial methodologies.
