Gabriela Sanchez is a Part-Time Professor in the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at the University of Ottawa's Faculty of Arts. Her research focuses on integrating digital innovations into cultural heritage preservation across community, municipal, provincial, and federal scales. She specializes in heritage management, digital humanities, and archival development, particularly in urban built heritage conservation.
She holds certifications from the Canadian Association of Heritage Professionals (CAHP/ACECP), ICOMOS, and the Association for Preservation Technology International (APT). Her affiliations include the International Chair in Francophone Heritage Policies, Gatineau-Outaouais Heritage Network (RPGO), and ICOMOS Canada.
Key research interests include debates on heritage management practices, conservation of tangible and intangible heritage, and community-driven heritage preservation strategies. Her work emphasizes ethical approaches to decolonizing heritage policies in Francophone contexts. Recent publications explore social media's role in virtual heritage, pandemic impacts on intangible heritage, and urban art's intersection with heritage sites.
Her professional engagements include advisory roles in heritage restoration and collaborations with institutions across Spain (Seville, Madrid, Toulouse) and Argentina. She has conducted fieldwork in Quebec City and maintains expertise in transborder distance education methodologies.
