Ataa Alsalloum

Dr. Ataa Alsalloum is a Lecturer in Architecture and Urban Heritage at the University of Liverpool's Liverpool School of Architecture (LSA), where she has been based since 2017 after being honored as a research fellow in 2016. She serves as a member of the University of Liverpool Senate and holds significant positions with heritage organizations including chairing the ICOMOS-UK Education, Training and Events Committee and serving as an Expert Member of the International Scientific Committee of ICOMOS on Education and Training (CIF).

Dr. Alsalloum's research spans sustainable heritage management across multiple regions with particular focus on the UK, Middle East and North Africa (MENA), and Syrian diaspora communities in Britain. Her work integrates tangible and intangible cultural heritage with emphasis on post-conflict reconstruction, heritage documentation, and policy development. She has led projects in Qatar, Oman, Morocco, India, and Syria, demonstrating a strong international research profile.

Her recent publications reveal a strong focus on intangible cultural heritage of migrant communities, particularly Syrians in the UK, post-conflict reconstruction in Syria, digital documentation of endangered heritage sites like Palmyra, and urban heritage evolution in cities like Liverpool. These works demonstrate interdisciplinary approaches that bridge architecture, urban studies, migration studies, and digital heritage technologies.
