Gabriela S. Bulla

Gabriela S. Bulla is a Professor of Applied Linguistics and Portuguese as an Additional Language (PAL) at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) since 2012 and concurrently serves as a post-doctoral researcher at King's College London and the University of Barcelona. Her institutional leadership includes:

• Director and pedagogic coordinator of the Portuguese for Foreigners Program (PPE) at UFRGS (2012-2019)
• Coordinator and co-creator of the online PAL course for exchange students (CEPI) since 2007
• Coordinator of the research group Technologies, Interdisciplinarity and Multiliteracy in Education
• Member of UNHCR's Cátedra Sérgio Vieira de Mello at UFRGS
• Coordinator of sociolinguistic and academic integration for undergraduate refugees (2018-2019)

Her research program investigates language education through interdisciplinary and technological lenses, with core emphases on:

• Development of PAL pedagogy for face-to-face and digital environments
• Curriculum innovation through task-based and project-based methodologies
• Teacher training frameworks for multilingual classrooms
• Sociolinguistic dynamics in migrant/refugee educational integration
• Technology-mediated multiliteracy practices

Her doctoral research under Ben Rampton examined European and Brazilian linguistic policies for migrant integration via a three-year comparative study, directly informing her refugee integration initiatives at UFRGS that bridge academic research with practical program development.

As leader of the Technologies, Interdisciplinarity and Multiliteracy in Education research group, she drives projects exploring how digital tools and cross-disciplinary collaboration transform literacy development for linguistically diverse learners in higher education contexts.
