Dr. Gabriela González is an Associate Professor in the Department of History at the University of Texas at San Antonio's College of Liberal and Fine Arts. She specializes in Chicana/o history, US-Mexico borderlands, gender studies, and Latinx history. González earned her Ph.D. in U.S. History from Stanford University in 2005 and is a Ford Foundation Diversity Fellow.
Her research examines transborder activism and Mexican American civil rights movements. She authored the award-winning book Redeeming La Raza: Transborder Modernity, Race, Respectability, and Rights (Oxford University Press, 2018) and is currently working on a political biography of Jovita Idár.
González serves as Undergraduate Advisor of Record and has received special recognition from UTSA students on Faculty/Staff Appreciation Day. She contributes to public history through PBS documentaries, podcast interviews, and K-12 teacher workshops on Mexican American civil rights.
