Gabriela A. Frei is a British Academy Postdoctoral Research Fellow and Junior Research Fellow in History at Jesus College, University of Oxford. Her research focuses on the intersection of international law, trade, and strategy during the 19th and 20th centuries, particularly examining jurists' roles in international politics and the evolution of maritime strategic thought.
Her current project investigates how the First World War transformed perceptions of the international legal order and shaped the interwar economic system. She previously secured funding to organize an interdisciplinary workshop on 'International Law and the First World War,' resulting in publications in the European Journal of International Law. Her doctoral work on British maritime strategy and international law (1856–1914) is being prepared for publication.
Teaching responsibilities include Oxford's Prelims FHS modules on historical methodologies. Research interests extend to global/imperial history, intellectual history, and war/military history. She has contributed to discussions on contemporary law of the sea issues and security strategy.
