Gabe Mythen

Professor Gabe Mythen is a leading academic at the University of Liverpool's Department of Sociology, Social Policy and Criminology. His research intersects Sociology, Criminology, and Social Policy, focusing on risk's societal impacts. He currently leads the €3M DRIVE project, investigating radicalisation and counter-strategies in North-Western Europe. Mythen also chairs the Department's 'People, Culture and Environment' initiative, driving inclusive research policies. His work spans counter-terrorism, extremism, and environmental activism, with notable grants from EU, ESRC, and UK agencies. He has advised NGOs, governments, and international bodies, including Portugal’s Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia and Malta’s Council for Science and Technology.

Research interests include radicalisation pathways, risk theory evolution, and climate activism. He has supervised over 20 PhD students and contributes to interdisciplinary journals like the British Journal of Sociology and Criminology & Criminal Justice. His professional roles include External Examiner at The Open University and Board Member of the European Sociological Association.
