Fábio Pèrtille is a Researcher at the Department of Organismal Biology; Physiology and Environmental Toxicology at Uppsala University, working in the 'Environmental Epigenetics Group'. He holds a veterinary degree from the University of Santa Catarina State (2010), and a Master's (2013) and Ph.D. (2016) in Science from the University of São Paulo, Brazil. His research focuses on genetics, epigenetics, and bioinformatics applied to animal domestication, welfare, and performance traits in poultry and other animals.
Key achievements include developing the GBS-MeDIP method for cost-effective DNA methylation analysis in reduced genomes, leading to six peer-reviewed publications and involvement in major projects like the EU-funded GEroNIMO consortium. He has received the CAPES Best Ph.D. Thesis Award (2016) for his work on animal science and fisheries resources.
Current projects include studying epigenetic responses to stress in avian species, maternal environmental effects on piglet neurodevelopment, and mitochondrial epigenetic interactions in vertebrates. His work bridges bioinformatics with experimental biology, emphasizing practical applications in animal breeding and welfare.
