Associate Professor Fulvia Felluga is a faculty member in the Department of Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Trieste, Italy. She currently serves as Delegate for Teaching (Delegato per la Didattica) in the Head’s Office and is an elected member of the Department Board, Boards of Studies, and Doctoral Studies Boards for Chemistry (cycles XXXII–XXXIII).
Research Focus
- Synthesis, characterization and biological evaluation of enantiomerically pure lactones
- Metal-catalyzed atom-transfer radical cyclization (ATRC) for functionalized γ-lactam scaffolds
- Design of short heterochiral antimicrobial peptides
- Epigenetic modulation of cellular senescence in immunosenescence and aging
Her work integrates modern synthetic organic methods with medicinal-chemistry evaluation, targeting novel bioactive molecules and smart materials. Active projects include national PRIN grants and interdisciplinary collaborations centered on peptide self-assembly, immune-system rejuvenation, and sustainable synthetic methodologies.
Current Funding & Grants
- Principal Investigator, “10% budget di ricerca – Chimica XL”, funded by the Italian Ministry of University and Research (2024-2028)
- Scientific Actor, Epigenetics of Cellular Senescence in Aging: Rejuvenating the Immune System for Human Health (2023-ongoing)
- Participant, Short Heterochiral Assembling Peptides that Zip into Smart Antimicrobials (2023-ongoing)
She teaches within the Chemistry degree programmes and mentors doctoral candidates in the PhD School of Chemistry.
