Pierluigi Barbieri is an Associate Professor at the Department of Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Trieste, specializing in Chemistry for the Environment and for Cultural Heritage. He serves in multiple administrative roles including as President of the University Sports Committee, Delegate for the Third Mission in the Head's Office, and as a Member of the Department's Board, Boards of Studies, and Doctoral Studies Boards for Chemistry cycles XXIX through XXXII.
His research focuses on environmental chemistry with particular emphasis on atmospheric processes. He leads the Atmospheric Aerosols Group which investigates atmospheric aerosols and thermal processes, and the VOCs Group which studies Volatile Organic Compounds in environmental assessment, clinical diagnosis and quality of life. His work bridges environmental science with practical applications for cultural heritage preservation.
Professor Barbieri is actively involved in numerous research projects including LIBERALITA'-STIFTUNG-22 (as Principal Investigator), support for regional odor emission regulations in Friuli Venezia Giulia, research on microbiological filtration effectiveness against SARS-CoV-2, and various innovation ecosystem initiatives in the Northeast region. His current projects reflect a strong commitment to addressing environmental challenges through scientific research with practical societal applications.
He serves on Doctoral Studies Boards for multiple Chemistry doctoral cycles (XXIX-XXXII) at the University of Trieste, contributing to the education and supervision of doctoral students in environmental chemistry fields. His administrative roles demonstrate significant institutional leadership beyond his research and teaching responsibilities.
