Frode Rønning

Frode Rønning is a Professor and Excellent Teaching Practitioner at the Department of Mathematical Sciences, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). He has held this position since 2013 and was recognized as an Excellent Teaching Practitioner in 2022. He holds a cand.scient. (1982) and dr.scient. (1989) in complex analysis from NTNU.

His research focuses on geometric function theory, language and concept development in mathematics, and foundational mathematics education for engineers. Key projects include CiviMatics (2020–2023), EsCO (2022–2023), and MARTA (2021–2023), emphasizing interdisciplinary education and civic engagement. He has contributed to numerous international conferences and journals, with publications spanning topics like mathematical modelling, language in education, and curriculum design.

Rønning is actively involved in academic leadership, serving as Vice President of the European Society for Research in Mathematics Education (ERME) since 2021, and on editorial boards for journals like Mathematical Thinking and Learning and Nordic Studies in Mathematics Education (NOMAD). He has also led national and international initiatives, including the MatRIC center and the National Graduate School in Mathematics and Science Education (MaScE).

His work highlights the interplay between mathematics and engineering education, emphasizing contextual learning and inclusive practices for multilingual learners. He has authored over 100 publications, including peer-reviewed articles, conference papers, and reports, reflecting his commitment to advancing mathematical pedagogy and research.
