Fritz Köster

Fritz Köster is a Professor at the National Institute of Aquatic Resources (DTU Aqua), specializing in marine living resources and fisheries management. His work focuses on the Baltic Sea and North Sea ecosystems, including stock assessment of cod, herring, and mackerel populations.

His research integrates food web dynamics to enhance environmental conservation strategies. Recent projects like EFISH and MAKE-IT emphasize ecosystem-based fisheries management in Danish Exclusive Economic Zones and sustainable mackerel stock assessment in the North Sea.

Key publications explore spawning closures, egg production methods, and collaborative benchmarking workshops for cod stocks. He actively contributes to policy development through membership in the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES) since 2012.

As a principal investigator and project coordinator, Köster collaborates with institutions across Denmark, Sweden, and the United States. He mentors PhD students and participates in research cruises, hydroacoustic surveys, and zooplankton studies.
