Prof. Dr. Friedrich Balke holds a Professorship for Media Studies with special emphasis on the theory, history and aesthetics of visual documentary forms at the Institute for Media Studies (IfM) at Ruhr-Universität Bochum.
His research focuses on visual media documentation, with particular attention to:
- Theoretical frameworks for understanding visual documentary forms
- Historical development of visual documentary media
- Aesthetic considerations in visual documentary production
- Documentary film theory and practice
- Media representation in visual documentation
Office hours for the summer semester of 2025 will be held during the lecture-free period by appointment via email. Students should contact his secretary, Dagny Körber, to register for office hours and must state their specific request in the email.
