Prof. Dr. Stefan Rieger is a Full Professor of Media History and Communication Theory at the Institute for Media Studies (IfM) at Ruhr University Bochum since 2007. He serves as Spokesperson for the DFG Collaborative Research Centre 1567 "Virtual Living Environments" since 2022.
- Education: Studied German and Philosophy; Doctorate on baroque data processing and mnemonics; Habilitation on media-anthropology relationships (2001).
- Research Interests: Media history, communication theory, digital media, intersection of aesthetics and socio-political functions of media, media anthropology, and gender/queer studies in media contexts.
- Key Projects: Leadership in DFG Collaborative Research Centre 1567 on "Virtual Living Environments".
- Awards: Heisenberg Fellow of the German Research Foundation (DFG).
