Frederick H. Asher

Dr. Frederick H. Asher is an Associate Professor at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) within the School of Medicine's Department of Medicine. As Division Director for Hospital Medicine, he drives operational excellence and patient care optimization. His academic roles include leadership in medical education, quality improvement initiatives, and hospital operations. He completed his MD from UMMC (2002) and residency in Internal Medicine (2005), with prior experience at Tulane University and Ochsner Hospital.

Education: MD (2002), Internal Medicine Residency (2005) – UMMC; BS in Microbiology (1999) – University of Southern Mississippi.

Research interests focus on hospital medicine systems, glycemic control protocols, medical education innovation, and rare disease diagnostics. His presentations address clinical challenges like drug-induced dermatoses, fungal endocrinopathies, and uncommon infectious syndromes. Recent work includes case studies on encapsulating peritoneal sclerosis and calciphylaxis in non-ESRD patients.

Awards include the Gold Humanism Teacher Honoree (2013) and completion of UMMC's Leadership Development Program (2022). He holds leadership positions in the Society of Hospital Medicine (Vice President, Mississippi Chapter) and chairs committees on glycemic control, value analysis, and medical education.

Teaching spans residency training, clerkships, and preceptorship for over a dozen students. Service roles include membership in the Medical Executive Committee, Patient Flow Taskforce, and multiple quality improvement initiatives.
