Ashraf S. Abdo

Ashraf S. Abdo serves as an Associate Professor in the School of Medicine at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) since 2013, concurrently holding roles as Clinical Supervisor of the Hospitalist Service and Staff Physician since 2007. He previously served as Associate Chief of the Medical Service at G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center (2015–2017). His academic background includes an MD from Cairo University (1991), a M.Sc in General Surgery (1997), and USMLE certification.

Abdo's research focuses on heart transplantation outcomes, immunology, and medical education. Key areas include cardiac allograft vasculopathy mechanisms, HLA compatibility, and CMV interactions. He has presented over 30 studies at international conferences like the International Society for Heart & Lung Transplantation.

He holds leadership roles in VA initiatives, including disaster response coordination during Hurricanes Harvey/Imra (2017) and chairs UMMC's SPARQ and SAIL committees. Awards include VA Service Awards (2017, 2012) and Staff Physician of the Year (2014). His clinical expertise spans internal medicine, critical care, and disaster medicine. Abdo actively mentors junior faculty and participates in residency training programs.
