Frederick E. Nelson

Dr. Frederick "Fritz" E. Nelson is an Adjunct Professor at Michigan State University's Department of Geography, Environment, and Spatial Sciences. He has held full Professor positions at Rutgers University, Cornell University, SUNY-Albany, and the University of Delaware. His research spans permafrost and periglacial geomorphology, climate change impacts on cold-region environments, terrain-climate interactions, and the history of cold-regions science.

His current projects include co-PI roles in the Circumpolar Active Layer Monitoring (CALM) program and managing a field-based climatology initiative in the Huron Mountain Club, home to one of the largest old-growth forests in the eastern U.S.

As a Lead/Contributing Author for the IPCC Assessment Reports, including the 2007 edition that shared the Nobel Peace Prize with Al Gore, Nelson has contributed significantly to global climate science discourse. He has lectured internationally across five continents.
