Frederic Sautet is an Associate Professor at the Busch School of Business, The Catholic University of America, where he also serves as Director of the Entrepreneurship Program and Director of the Röpke-Wojtyła Fellowship at the Ciocca Center for Principled Entrepreneurship. His expertise lies in market process theory, entrepreneurship research, and political economy. He teaches courses on entrepreneurship theory, business history, and management. Sautet earned a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Paris and conducted postdoctoral research at New York University under renowned economists Israel Kirzner and Mario Rizzo.
His research focuses on Austrian economics, the role of entrepreneurs in economic systems, and the intersection of ethics and economics. Key contributions include analyzing entrepreneurial opportunity recognition, market competition dynamics, and the critique of cluster-based economic policies. He is co-editor of the 10-volume Collected Works of Israel M. Kirzner and authored the influential book An Entrepreneurial Theory of the Firm (2000).
Sautet’s work emphasizes the importance of spontaneous market processes over government intervention. He leads initiatives like the Ciocca Scholars Conference and integrates Catholic social teaching with economic analysis. His scholarship bridges classical liberal thought with modern entrepreneurship theory, exploring themes such as alertness, institutional evolution, and ethical dimensions of economic activity.
