Freddy Y.C. Boey

Professor Freddy Y.C. Boey serves as Provost at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Singapore, having previously chaired NTU's School of Materials Science and Engineering from 2005 to 2010 where he transformed it into one of the world's largest and most research-intensive departments.

His pioneering research centers on functional biomaterials for medical devices with specialization in:

• Cardiovascular implants including fully biodegradable systems
• Ocular devices for vision-related applications
• Surgical implants such as customizable hernia meshes and tissue retractors
• Nanomedicine solutions for cardiovascular diseases

Professor Boey has secured over S$36 million in research funding including prestigious grants: S$10 million NRF Competitive Research Programme, S$20 million NRF Technion–Singapore grant, and S$1.25 million NRF Translational Flagship Project.

His distinguished honors include:

• Imperial College London Faculty of Medicine Fellowship (2013)
• Singapore Public Administration Medal (Silver) (2010)
• Monash University Distinguished Alumni Award (2011)
• Honorary Doctorate from Loughborough University (2011)
• Founding Fellow of the Academy of Engineering Singapore

As an entrepreneur, he has founded multiple companies commercializing his patented medical devices globally across the US, Europe, Japan, Middle East and India. He additionally serves as Board Director for Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS) and Defence Science Organisation under Singapore's Ministry of Law and Ministry of Defence respectively.
