Freddy Kamps is a Lecturer in Psychology at the University of Edinburgh's School of Philosophy, Psychology, and Language Sciences. He joined the institution in August 2024 after completing postdoctoral work at MIT. His research focuses on understanding how humans perceive and navigate visual environments, addressing fundamental questions about cognitive organization and development.
Education:
- PhD in Psychology (Emory University, advisor: Daniel Dilks)
- BA in Neuroscience (Macalester College)
Research: Explores three core questions: 1) Neural representation of visual scenes in adults, 2) Development of scene perception from infancy to adulthood, and 3) Role of experience in shaping cognition. Uses fMRI, infant looking-time methods, and VR technologies across populations including neonates, adults, and individuals with Williams syndrome.
Teaching & Supervision: Open to PhD supervision inquiries. Active in immersive experimental methodologies.
Labs/Teams: Engaged in interdisciplinary collaborations combining neuroscience, developmental psychology, and computational modeling.
