Eloisa Valenza is a Full Professor in the Department of Developmental and Social Psychology at the University of Padova. Her research focuses on cognitive development, audio-visual attentional mechanisms, and infancy, particularly exploring how early attentional processes influence typical and atypical developmental trajectories. She leads the BabyLab (https://lilia.dpss.psy.unipd.it/babylab/), a research facility dedicated to studying infant cognition and perception.
Her work examines topics such as neonatal face preference, temporal perception, prosody in speech, and the interplay between motor reflexes and neurodevelopmental disorders like autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Key themes include spatio-temporal attention dynamics, perceptual organization, and the emergence of abstract cognitive processes in infancy.
Valenza's publications consistently address foundational questions in developmental psychology, integrating behavioral and neuroscientific methodologies. Recent studies highlight mechanisms underlying visual attention disengagement, prosodic influences on speech preference, and the predictive role of parental autistic traits in infant behavior. Her interdisciplinary approach bridges cognitive science, linguistics, and clinical psychology to advance understanding of early human mind development.
Her research contributes to both theoretical frameworks (e.g., revising classical developmental theories) and applied domains, such as early intervention strategies for developmental disorders. The BabyLab serves as a hub for collaborative studies on infant perception, motor-cognitive interactions, and longitudinal developmental tracking.
