Fred Dervin is a Full Professor at the Department of Educational Sciences within the Faculty of Educational Sciences at the University of Helsinki, Finland. He holds affiliations with Helsinki Inequality Initiative (INEQ) and the Institute of Sustainability Science (HELSUS), serves as a doctoral program supervisor for School, Education, Society and Culture, and maintains a docentship in the Faculty commons of the Humanities Faculty.
A world-renowned interculturalist with 25+ years of impact, Dervin challenges conventional paradigms in Intercultural Communication Education through interdisciplinary integration of Educational Sciences, Linguistics, and Sociology. His research critically examines power dynamics in global interactions, advocating for transformative approaches to interculturality that empower educators and students to dismantle cultural essentialism and promote social justice in educational contexts.
