Franz Blumenthal

Franz Blumenthal (1878–1971) was a prominent dermatologist and academic. He served as a Research Professor at the University of Michigan Medical School's Department of Dermatology and later became Chief of the Dermatology Clinic at Wayne County General Hospital in Detroit. His academic career began at the Charité in Berlin, where he earned his professorship in 1922 and led the Dermatology Clinic provisionally from 1929–1932. He specialized in serology (syphilis diagnostics), mycology, radiation therapy for skin diseases, and occupational dermatitis. Forced to flee Nazi Germany in 1934 due to his Jewish heritage, he reestablished his career in the U.S., contributing significantly to dermatological research and clinical practice until his death at 93.
