Frank Sirocko is a full Professor of Geosciences at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, where he has served since 1998 as Head of the Climate and Sediments research group within the Institute of Geosciences.
His research specializes in reconstructing paleoweather patterns over the last 50,000 years, with expertise spanning Paleoclimatology, Sedimentology, and Quaternary Geology. His work integrates sedimentary records to analyze historical climate dynamics including El Niño events and monsoon systems.
Academic background:
- 1985: Diploma in Geology, University of Kiel
- 1989: Dr. rer. nat., University of Kiel
- 1995: Habilitation, University of Kiel
Prior appointments include a Max Kade Foundation fellowship at Columbia University's Lamont Doherty Earth Observatory (1992-1993) and a Heisenberg Fellowship from the German Research Foundation (1995-1998) with concurrent positions at the University of Cambridge and GFZ Potsdam.
His research group actively pursues projects including ELSA, DEKLIM, SPP 1135, Movement Potentials, Seismic Survey, Monsun, and El Niño analysis, focusing on paleoclimate reconstruction methodologies.
