Edouard Bard is a Professor at the Collège de France, holding the chair "Climate and Ocean Evolution." His laboratory is based at the European Center for Research and Education in Environmental Geosciences (CEREGE), a joint research unit in Aix-en-Provence.
- PhD in Geology, University of Paris-Saclay (1987)
- Postdoctoral Fellow, Lamont Doherty Earth Observatory (1987-1990)
- Professor, University of Aix-Marseille (1991-2001)
His research integrates climatology, oceanography, and geology to reconstruct Earth's climate history using geochemical archives like ocean sediments, corals, stalagmites, and ice cores. He employs mass spectrometry and isotopic dating to model climate forcings and distinguish natural versus anthropogenic impacts.
Recent lectures (Feb-Apr 2026) explore climatic and societal interactions over the past 2000 years. His work spans global warming contexts, ocean-carbon cycle feedbacks, and extreme climate events.
- Member, Académie des Sciences (2010)
- Fellow, American Geophysical Union (1997)
- International Member, US National Academy of Sciences (2014)
- European Geosciences Union Honorary Member (2013)
Publications focus on sea level reconstruction, deglaciation dynamics, and interhemispheric climate links, leveraging U/Th and 14C dating for precise chronologies.
