معرفی
Dr. Frank Redegeld is an Associate Professor in the Division of Pharmacology at the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Faculty of Science, Utrecht University. His research focuses on immunopharmacology, particularly mast cell biology in chronic inflammatory diseases and allergy. He has held his current position since 2002 and has extensive experience in both academic research and international collaboration.
Dr. Redegeld received his PhD in Pharmacology from Utrecht University in 1989, followed by a Fogarty Fellowship at the National Institutes of Health (1989-1992). He returned to Utrecht University as a KNAW Fellow (1992-1997) before becoming Assistant Professor (1997-2002) and subsequently Associate Professor (2002-present). In 2012, he spent six months as a Visiting Scientist at the NIH.
Dr. Redegeld's primary research interests center on the molecular mechanisms of cellular activation in chronic inflammatory diseases, with a strong focus on mast cells. His work spans immunopharmacology, immunology, and allergy, investigating how mast cells contribute to conditions like eosinophilic esophagitis, food allergies, and other inflammatory disorders. His laboratory examines both basic mast cell biology and translational applications, including potential therapeutic targets for allergic and inflammatory conditions.
Analysis of Dr. Redegeld's recent publications reveals a strong emphasis on mast cell biology in the context of food allergy, eosinophilic esophagitis, and inflammatory bowel diseases. His work frequently explores the intersection of allergy and oncology (AllergoOncology), examining how immune mechanisms in allergic diseases might relate to cancer. Nutritional immunology is another emerging theme, with studies on how dietary components like omega-3 fatty acids and butyrate can modulate inflammatory responses.
- Fogarty Fellowship at NIH (1989-1992)
- KNAW Fellowship (1992-1997)
- Elected member of the Collegium Internationale Allergologicum (CIA)
Dr. Redegeld serves as Editor-in-Chief of the European Journal of Pharmacology and holds editorial positions with several other journals including Journal of Pharmacological Sciences and Journal of Asthma and Allergy. His research has been supported by various national and international funding bodies, enabling extensive collaboration with researchers across Europe and the United States. He has supervised numerous PhD students and postdoctoral researchers who have gone on to establish careers in academia and industry.
Dr. Redegeld is actively involved in several research networks including the European Mast Cell and Basophil Research Network (EMBRN) and the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI), where he participates in working groups focused on AllergoOncology and Immunopharmacology. His laboratory at Utrecht University maintains strong collaborations with clinical departments, facilitating translational research from bench to bedside.
