Gisoo Ghaffari

Dr. Gisoo Ghaffari is a Professor in the Department of Medicine at Penn State College of Medicine, specializing in Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine. She has been a faculty member since 2008 and holds board certifications in Allergy and Immunology, Internal Medicine, and Dermatology.

Dr. Ghaffari's academic background includes an MD from Shiraz University of Medical Sciences (1979–1988), followed by residencies in Dermatology (1992–1996) and Internal Medicine, and a Fellowship in Allergy and Immunology, all at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.

Her research focuses on eosinophilic esophagitis and allergic skin disorders. She leads clinical trials, including a Regeneron-sponsored study on dupilumab for eosinophilic esophagitis and a project investigating beclomethasone dipropionate’s effects. Her work emphasizes translational research and clinical outcomes in allergic diseases.

Dr. Ghaffari has received numerous awards, including the Best Poster Award, Food Disorders (2011), Clinical Science Career Mentor Award (2019), and the Dean's Award for Excellence in Teaching (2011 and 2021).

In education, she directs the Allergy and Immunology Fellowship and oversees courses for medical students, residents, and fellows. She also mentors trainees and contributes to committees on mentorship and promotion criteria.

Clinically, she manages patients with allergic and immunological conditions, including eosinophilic gastrointestinal disorders and atopic dermatitis. Her programs include quality monitoring of allergen immunotherapy and specialized diagnostic tests like patch testing.
