Frank Ledwidge is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Portsmouth's Faculty of Business & Law, within the School of Strategy, Marketing and Innovation. A former criminal barrister, he has extensive experience in international human rights protection, criminal law reform, and institution-building in conflict zones such as the Balkans, former Soviet Union, Ukraine, and Afghanistan. He served as the UK's first Justice Advisor in Helmand Province (2007-2008) and in Libya during its 2011-2012 war. His expertise spans military strategy, air power history, and missing persons in war.
Frank holds a law degree from Oxford University and a PhD in War Studies from King's College London. His research focuses on military capabilities, air power, and the ethical dimensions of modern warfare. He has authored best-selling books like Losing Small Wars and Aerial Warfare, both recognized by prestigious military reading lists and awards.
Frank frequently advises governments, militaries, and parliamentary bodies, including the House of Commons Defence Committee. He appears regularly in media, such as BBC World Service and Panorama, and lectures globally on military operations and air power strategy. His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals addressing peace, justice, and strong institutions.
