Philip Sabin is a Professor of Strategic Studies at King's College London's Department of War Studies, part of the School of Security Studies. He holds a PhD from the War Studies Department and studied at Queens’ College Cambridge. His research focuses on ancient warfare, air power, World War Two, and conflict simulation. He co-directed the Wargaming Network and has contributed to academic partnerships with military institutions like the Joint Services Command and Staff College. Sabin has authored 15 books and numerous articles, including works on air power and ancient battles. He received the 2009 Distinguished Reference Book Award for the Cambridge History of Greek and Roman Warfare. His teaching includes modules on World War Two, ancient warfare, and conflict simulation. Sabin advises the UK Ministry of Defence and organizes the annual Connections UK wargaming conference.
His research explores analytical modeling of warfare dynamics, with special emphasis on air power contests and ancient battles. He has designed simulation tools like the Camberley Kriegsspiel for military training and pioneered wargaming in higher education. His work bridges historical analysis with modern strategic applications, appearing frequently in media and international lectures.
