معرفی
Frank Hollmann is a Professor in the Department of Biotechnology at the Faculty of Applied Sciences, Delft University of Technology (TU Delft). He leads the Frank Hollmann Group, which is part of the Biocatalysis research section. His work bridges biocatalysis and organic chemistry, with a strong emphasis on sustainable and green chemical processes.
His research focuses on the application of oxidoreductases—such as monooxygenases, peroxygenases, alcohol dehydrogenases, and ene reductases—for selective and efficient organic synthesis. Key research themes include:
- Biocatalytic oxyfunctionalization and reduction reactions
- Direct, cofactor-independent regeneration schemes
- Efficient use of electron donors like methanol and water
- Photobiocatalysis using visible light to drive thermodynamically challenging reactions
- Biocatalytic redox chemistry in non-aqueous media
- Design of (chemo)enzymatic cascades for one-pot transformations
- Quantitative environmental impact assessment using metrics like Sheldon’s E-factor
He teaches several courses at TU Delft, including Biocatalysis (LB2961), Leren Onderzoeken 1, 2 (LO1 and LO2), Protein Engineering (LM3771), and Green Chemistry and Sustainable Technology (GCST, LM3311).
Dr. Hollmann supervises a research group comprising multiple postdoctoral researchers and PhD students, indicating an active role in academic mentoring and research leadership.
