Frank Gonzalez is an Associate Professor in the School of Government & Public Policy at the University of Arizona. He directs the Psychology of Inequality and Politics (PIP) Lab, which integrates psychology, sociology, and social neuroscience to study inequality and intolerance in American politics, particularly focusing on race and class. His work bridges observational survey data with experimental methods like cognitive tasks, MRIs, and implicit association tests. Gonzalez holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in Political Science from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Delaware.
Frank’s research explores how psychological mechanisms shape political attitudes and behaviors. His work examines topics such as racial bias in policy preferences, the neurobiological correlates of political ideology, and the impact of disease salience on humanitarian aid attitudes. He has published in journals like Political Research Quarterly, Political Communication, and Behavioural Brain Research.
His research highlights the intersection of political psychology with empirical rigor, aiming to understand how cognitive and emotional processes influence political decisions. Gonzalez’s PIP Lab emphasizes collaborative interdisciplinary approaches, combining behavioral experiments with neuroimaging techniques to uncover the roots of political inequality. His future work continues to explore how societal structures and individual psychologies interact to perpetuate or challenge systemic inequities.
