Francois Romijn

François Romijn is a Researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in the Department of Human Behavior, Ecology and Culture. His work bridges anthropology, science and technology studies (STS), and genomics, focusing on the social and cultural implications of genetic research.

Dr. Romijn specializes in the intersection of specialist knowledge and lay-users, particularly in genomics. His current MSCA Individual Fellowship project, The social life of ancient DNA, examines how scientists and citizens interpret the past through ancient DNA research in Germany and Vanuatu. Earlier projects explored ancestry genomics among Belgian immigrant descendants and epigenetics in biosocial agendas.

His scholarship addresses genomic identity, digital ambiguity, and epigenetic debates, published in journals like SociologieS, Science as Culture, and BioSocieties.
