Francisco Uviña-Contreras is an Assistant Professor at the University of New Mexico's School of Architecture and Planning, where he directs the Historic Preservation and Regionalism Graduate Certificate Program. He holds a Masters of Architecture (2009) and a Graduate Certificate in Preservation from UNM, alongside a BA in Architecture (1994). His research focuses on earthen construction, vernacular architecture, and Latin American cultural heritage conservation.

Research interests include adaptive reuse of historic structures, traditional earthen building techniques, and community-based preservation initiatives. He has led international projects in Peru and Mexico, including the Pan American Course on Earthen Architecture Conservation (1999-2000s). Awards include the National Trust Scholarship (2000) and US State Department speaker grants (2007).
Teaching spans undergraduate/graduate design studios and preservation courses since 2009. Notable projects include the Zuni Main Street Architecture Studio (2017) and co-authoring Adobe Conservation Handbook (2006).
