Dr. Francisco Eissa Barroso is a Senior Lecturer in Latin American History at the University of Manchester, specializing in early modern Spanish America and the broader Hispanic World. He holds a PhD in History from the University of Warwick (2011) and has held academic positions including a CONACyT Postdoctoral Fellowship at El Colegio de Michoacán and a Santander Early Career Fellowship at Warwick. His research focuses on political culture, mobility studies, and disability history in the early modern period, with a particular emphasis on the Bourbon reforms and transatlantic dynamics.

Recent research explores 'staggered mobility' across the Hispanic World and disability history, with publications analyzing physical impairment in the early modern Spanish Atlantic. His AHRC-funded project Trajectories of Reform investigated administrative networks under the Bourbons. He supervises postgraduate students on Latin American social and political history.
