Prof. Francisco Amaral is an Assistant Professor of Real Estate Finance at the University of Zurich's Department of Finance and a SFI Faculty Member at the Swiss Finance Institute. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Bonn and is a Research Fellow at the Kiel Institute for the World Economy. His research focuses on the intersection of financial and urban economics, particularly the spatial dynamics of housing markets. Key areas include price uncertainty, market microstructure, and the impact of interest rates on housing polarization.
Co-founding the German Real Estate Index (GREIX), he advances transparency in housing markets through city-level price tracking. His work examines how spatial factors influence housing returns, liquidity, and investor behavior. Recent studies highlight disparities in housing market performance between urban agglomerations and smaller cities, linking these to risk and liquidity differentials.
