Francisca Isi Omorodion is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology and Criminology at the University of Windsor's Faculty of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. Her research focuses on HIV/AIDS vulnerability, Black communities, and health disparities, with a particular emphasis on African, Caribbean, and Black Canadian populations. She holds a PhD from the University of Benin (Nigeria), an MA from the University of Toronto, and additional graduate degrees from Exeter University (UK) and McMaster University.
Key research interests include sexual health, gender studies, immigrant experiences, and public health policy. She has conducted extensive studies on HIV prevention strategies among heterosexual Black men in Ontario, correlating behavioral factors with healthcare access challenges. Her work also examines mass media influences on youth sexual behavior and cultural perceptions of health risks.
Notable contributions include the weSpeak Study analyzing HIV vulnerability across multiple Ontario sites and community-driven projects addressing employability among racialized men. Dr. Omorodion has secured over $600,000 in grants, including SSHRC and CIHR funding, and has been recognized with teaching awards and international fellowships.
