Francis P. Zamborini is a Professor and Interim Chair in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Louisville. His research focuses on the synthesis, characterization, and application of gold nanoclusters and noble metal nanoparticles, with emphasis on electrochemical methods and nanomaterials for catalysis, sensing, and energy applications.
Education:
- 1993 B.A., Carthage College
- 1998 Ph.D., Texas A&M University
- 1998–2001 Postdoctoral Research Associate, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
Research interests include nanoparticle synthesis via electrochemical methods, electrophoretic deposition of hybrid materials, and studying size-dependent properties of gold nanoclusters. Current projects involve anti-galvanic replacement reactions, electrochemical growth kinetics, and development of advanced metal-aerogel composites.
Publications highlight advancements in femtomolar detection of nanoparticles, silver nanowire electrodeposition, and thermal stability analysis of gold nanoclusters. His work bridges fundamental electrochemistry with applied nanotechnology, targeting applications in environmental monitoring and industrial catalysis.
Labs/Teams: The Zamborini Research Lab explores interdisciplinary nanomaterials research, focusing on novel synthesis techniques and characterization using tools like EC-QCM and EC-TEM. Key projects include alloy nanocluster formation and catalytic hydrogel development.
