Sir Francis Jacobs is a Professor of Law and Jean Monnet Professor at King’s College London’s Dickson Poon School of Law. He serves as President of the Centre of European Law and has held notable prior roles such as Advocate General at the Court of Justice of the European Union (1988–2006) and Professor/Director of the Centre of European Law until 1988.
Research Interests: European Community Law, International Law, and the European Convention on Human Rights. His work focuses on legal sovereignty, judicial mechanisms, and human rights frameworks within European and international contexts.
Key Contributions: Authored foundational texts like The Sovereignty of Law: the European Way (2007) and co-edited the Yearbook of European Law. He has spearheaded initiatives such as the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence and organized annual lectures on EU-UK relations and CJEU jurisprudence.
Labs/Teams: Leads the Centre of European Law, fostering research on post-Brexit legal challenges, EU-UK relations, and transnational data protection issues through workshops and collaborative events with institutions like the EU Delegation and University of Southampton.
