Professor Andrea Biondi is a leading academic in European Union Law at King’s College London, serving as Professor of European Union Law and Director of the Centre of European Law (CEL). He was recently appointed as Advocate General for Italy in the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU), effective October 2024. His roles include academic leadership, policy advising (e.g., Italian Prime Minister’s Office), and contributions to EU legal frameworks.
Education: PhD, Master of Laws, and Bachelor of Laws from the University of Florence. He has held visiting professorships at Georgetown University, Bocconi University, and the College of Europe.
Research interests focus on EU judicial protection, state aid law, and post-Brexit legal dynamics. His work addresses EU-UK relations, subsidy control, and procedural autonomy. He leads the CEL, a 50-year-old institution renowned for EU legal debates and impactful research on state aid, transatlantic trade, and judicial protection.
Professional roles include Vice Chair of the Board of Appeal of ACER (EU energy regulator), membership in prestigious legal journals’ advisory boards, and affiliation with 39 Essex Chambers. His contributions span over 80 publications, including books, articles, and edited volumes on EU law challenges.
Grants and collaborations include Jean Monnet Centre projects on EU-UK relations and soft law. He oversees the CEL’s annual lectures and international partnerships, fostering dialogue on EU law evolution.
