Francis Bernard is a Clinical Associate Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, Department of Medicine, Université de Montréal. He is an internist-intensivist and researcher at the HSCM Research Center, specializing in neurological intensive care after completing a fellowship at the University of Cambridge (Addenbrooke’s Hospital, England). As Deputy Director of the Traumatology/Acute Care Research Axis at the research center and Director of the Neurocritical Care Unit at Hôpital du Sacré-Cœur, he leads clinical research on traumatic brain injuries, cerebral monitoring, transcranial Doppler applications, delirium, and quality improvement in patient care.
His research is funded by major Canadian and Quebecois grant agencies, including CIHR and FRQS, across projects like DEX-TBI (2024–2027) on sedation in TBI patients and CARBI (2022–2026) on carbon dioxide levels and brain injury in ventilated patients. He has supervised graduate students, including Chloé Martineau-Lessard (Master's, 2021), and collaborates extensively with co-researchers in multidisciplinary teams.
