Francis Barchi is an Associate Professor at the Edward J. Bloustein School of Public Policy and a core member of the Rutgers Global Health Institute. She holds a PhD in Social Welfare from the University of Pennsylvania, an M.B.E. in Bioethics, an MSc in Non-Profit Leadership, and a B.A. from Smith College. Her research focuses on ethical issues in global health, gender-based violence, and women’s health in sub-Saharan Africa, particularly in Botswana and Kenya. She also emphasizes capacity-building in research ethics education in low- and middle-income countries.
Dr. Barchi teaches undergraduate and graduate courses on global health, medical ethics, and public policy, including

- Foundations of Medical Ethics and Health Policy
Her recent work explores the intersection of sanitation infrastructure, violence prevention, and health outcomes in informal settlements. She has pioneered programs using community sports to address intimate partner violence and improve women’s emotional health in rural Kenya. Her research also examines ethical challenges in international research collaborations and ethics education curricula for medical students in Guatemala.
