Francesco M. Donini is a Full Professor in Computer Science & Engineering at Universita' della Tuscia in Viterbo, Italy. He previously held academic positions as Assistant Professor at Sapienza University of Rome (1992–1998) and Associate Professor at Politecnico di Bari (1998–2002). His research spans theoretical and applied aspects of Artificial Intelligence, including knowledge representation, computational complexity, semantic web technologies, and recommender systems.

His scientific work addresses both foundational problems in logic and practical applications in e-commerce and image retrieval. He has received Best Paper Awards at IJCAI-91 and ICEC-05. He has served as PC Chair for AICA-2002, RDRC-06, and SMR 2006, and as a PC member for IJCAI and ECAI conferences since 1999. He contributed to the editorial boards of the Journal of Universal Computer Science (since 2008) and Data (since 2020).
