Innocenza Palaia, MD, PhD, is Associate Professor of Obstetrics & Gynecology at Sapienza University of Rome, Department of Maternal and Child Health and Urological Sciences, and Senior Consultant and Head of the Gynecologic Oncology Unit at Policlinico Umberto I, Rome.

Research Interests
Her translational and clinical research focuses on the entire spectrum of gynecologic oncology, with particular emphasis on ovarian, cervical and endometrial cancers. She investigates precision medicine approaches including BRCA mutational profiling, PARP-inhibitor therapy, HPV-related carcinogenesis and vaccination, sentinel-node mapping, and peri-operative strategies to improve surgical outcomes and quality of life in cancer survivors.

Grants & Supervision
Since 2003 she has been Principal or Co-Investigator on >25 competitive research grants (total value >€400 000) from Sapienza University, PRIN and AIRC. She currently leads three active institutional projects on COVID-19 collateral damage in women’s health, end-of-life care in ovarian cancer, and peri-operative nutrition. She has supervised numerous PhD students and has been thesis advisor for 13 medical and midwifery graduates (2020-2024).
Clinical & Academic Leadership
She directs the Gynecologic Oncology Unit at Policlinico Umberto I, managing 16 in-patients daily and performing >1 000 oncologic visits yearly. She is President of the Midwifery Degree Course in Viterbo (second mandate) and teaches integrated pathology, gynecology & obstetrics in medicine, midwifery and nursing curricula across Sapienza campuses.
