Francesco Di Filippo

Francesco Di Filippo serves as a First Researcher at the Italian National Research Council (CNR), specializing in the history and archaeology of the ancient Near East with particular focus on the Syro-Anatolian region during the 2nd and 1st millennia BC. His expertise encompasses chronology problems, legal formularies, and archival practices of ancient Near Eastern societies.

Dr. Di Filippo coordinates the "Sinleqiunnini" project since 2005, a comprehensive initiative for the informatization and semi-automatic processing of logo-syllabic writing systems of the ancient Near East. This has resulted in significant digital resources including the Middle Euphrates Digital Archive and the Ebla Digital Archives. Since 2011, the project expanded to Mediterranean sources through collaboration with Dr. Maurizio Del Freo, developing the Liber project for Linear B texts. His second major research line involves geographic-quantitative approaches to historical geography, featuring HGIS applications for archaeological data from Arslantepe in Turkey, where he collaborates with Professor Marcella Frangipane of Sapienza University of Rome.
